Intel Atom N470 to launch Monday
Feb 27th
Intel is set to launch the new and faster Atom N470 processor on Monday.
The Atom N470 processor has a clock speed of 1.83GHz vs 1.66GHz on the N450 processor that’s standard with new Pinetrail netbooks. Pricing is expected to be $20 higher.
Unfortunately there is no news about the rumor of added DDR3 memory support yet.
The word is that Atom N470-based netbooks could begin shipping as early as next week. It’s exciting to see if new netbooks will show up, keeping in mind that CeBIT 2010 is just around the corner.

SnowyWindOSX Final Released!
Jan 26th
After nearly 3 months of development, InsanelyWind forum user “Dalton63841″ has released his next version of SnowyWindOSX to the public. It is called SnowyWindOSX Final, and replaces the older SnowyWindOSX Alpha version released back in October. This release consists of many bug fixes, such as unstable audio while running on battery power. It also gives you a 100% Vanilla Snow Leopard install, with all hacked kexts (or hardware-specific drivers) located on the EFI partition, instead of in the System folder of OS X.
SnowyWindOSX is a Mac OS X Snow Leopard distro originally thought of by InsanelyWind forum user “Mars478″. It is a very simple method to install Snow Leopard on your MSI Wind without requiring any Terminal work or hacking whatsoever. The full process of putting SnowWindOSX on your Wind is as simple as downloading, burning to a DVD or USB flash drive, and installing on your hard drive. You are only required to run a few easy post-installation packages that do all of the hard work for you. SnowyWindOSX Final gives you a fully working installation of Snow Leopard 10.6.2. It is also worth mentioning that this release is compatible with the Dell Mini 10v, the HP Mini 1000, and possibly many other Netbooks.
SnowyWindOSX Final announcement page is located Here
The Guides to install this new distro are also located on the Snow Leopard page of the InsanelyWind Wiki , along with all of the other methods used to install OS X on your Netbook.

Cheaper U135 model pre-loaded with SUSE Moblin
Jan 10th
MSI has announced a version of the Wind U135 to be pre-loaded with SUSE Moblin 2.1. Moblin is an open-source Linux based Operating System being developed by Novell. Other companies, like Dell and Acer, have experimented with the Moblin Operating System, but the Wind will be the first Atom processor-based netbook to be shipped with it.
This version of the Wind U135 will have the same exact hardware specs as previously mentioned. It consists of a 10″ LED display, 1.66GHz Atom N450 processor, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, 1GB of RAM, and a 250GB Hard Drive.
The U135 with SUSE Moblin is scheduled to be shipped later this month. There is no mention of the price difference between it and the U135 running Windows 7 Starter yet. It will for sure be cheaper, since the OS is open-source.

Intel launches AppUp Center app store for Atom-powered devices
Jan 8th
Intel has launched a Beta of it’s App Store for Atom powered netbooks. It’s called AppUp Center, and it lets you download applications for netbooks running either Windows or Moblin Linux, although so far only the Windows installer is available right now.
Intel says the first apps that are available cover games, health, education, entertainment, and other areas. There should be a mix of free and paid apps.
Intel eventually plans to expand the app store to work with devices beside netbooks including smartphones, televisions, and other consumer electronics. Some netbook makers are expected to begin shipping PCs with the AppUp Center preloaded, but for now, you can download and install it yourself.
