I installed a dual boot OSX and Win 7. My Vanilla OSX works GREAT when my Wind is plugged. When it's on battery and after 3 -4 sounds i hear on my speakers some crashing sounds and then kernel panic. Any Ideas....I have the EFI Finisher kexts. Nothing changed

------EDIT------
OK after some test i finally discovered some other things. My wind was plugged in and then I removed the power cable. After that the audio disappeared! No audio at all. And also i didn't have kernel panic. After 10 minutes i reconnected the cable ...still no sound, but after 2-3 minutes using the netbook Sound came back by it's own.

So I think the problem is something about the sound (maybe VoodooHDA kext) when i'm on battery. I'll try a different kext and see the results.

I used your EFIFinisher on my MSI Wind PC as per the "TUTORIAL for Nettop (barebones desktop) Vanilla Snow install" thread, and it works fine: I have it dual booting 10.6.2 and Windows XP, but there is one thing that is happening that has been making me crazy: it lists the "MSI Wind LED" as the monitor. I'd like it to detect and register my real monitor, but it doesn't. I was told by 18seven that I need to find where that "EDID" is being injected, but I can't find it. I don't see an EFI Finisher specifically for the Nettop like mine: is it possible that there is something that I installed as a result that makes this think it has a built in LED?
Thanks in advance, and thank you for your work: I love tinkering with these Hackintoshs, but they can also be frustrating at times!

Just drag and drop, then type in your password and easy install.
Then restart

So a small update on my rotated screen: I noticed it happened a few more times, so I did some more testing and I figured out that my screen has that problem every time I turn the computer off (which includes restarting and booting into windows). If I just restart in snow leopard, or sleep the computer the display never gets messed up. But if I shut down the mac partition, the screen is rotated next time i boot up. Luckily, I also figured out that a simple restart (without running EFI Finisher as I thought previously fixed it) will put the resolution back to normal. I'm still boggled as to why this happens, and I don't think I've heard of anyone else having this problem, so I'm curious what I borked along the way, haha.

Has the OP been updated with the latest version of VooDooHDA (v2.5.4)?

Maybe this new VooDooHDA kext is a solution to the dreaded jumpy audio problem in iTunes :)

EDIT- And what is the difference between both of the kexts that say "ApplePS2Controller.kext/AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext". There are two of them uploaded in the Keyboard/TouchPad section.

another update on my situation with my random screen rotation: I just updated my bios for the first time in a while because I heard it fixed some sleep issues with windows 7, and I was wondering if overclocking to 24% would be stable with a bios update (the sleep issues seem to fixed, but the overclocking still isn't stable at 24%), and that appears to have fixed it. I still have no idea what the issue was, but if anyone else randomly gets their resolution messed up, don't forget to update your bios. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it earlier as something to try.

jumpy audio may be solved by using voodoopowermini.kext instead of voodoopower

A first: Thank you very much! Your Tutorial and the EFI-Tools are great and working excellent. I switched to Snow Leopard almost flawlessly. The only drawback were the Keyboard/Trackpad-drivers. I own a Wind 1616 wth Sentelic Trackpad. The CGKexts was the only working combination for me. Only the Key between Shift and Z/Y was not working.
After searching other posts I found the CGPS2Controller-Mod from Capt.Insano (stringbag's Thread - it is the 4th post): CGPS2Controller.kext.zip and overwrote the corresponding kext from your tutorial, the first post of this thread. Maybe you want to include it as a fifth kext option.

First of all, well done and many thanks for the formidable work Dalton and the entire crew has put into the knowledge and this thread.

My only problem is as follows:
- Installing 10.6.0 goes without a hitch, as is the EFI Finisher. OSX installs off flashdisk fully, without error messages.
- Updating to 10.6.1 goes well, too. After that i run EFI Finisher again, and all is well.
- Updating to 10.6.2 generates a KP, no matter what I do.

What would you suggest I do in order that the 10.6.2 update sticks finally and my U100 / 2GB finally runs rock-solid?

Thanks a bunch once more, keep up the admirable work!

Well I can tell you what I did, mine works flawlessly...

-Installed Vanilla 10.6.0
-Run EFI Finisher
-Run 10.6.2 Combo Update

-Get perfect Vanilla install!

Thanks Pooky,
I have retried this and what I get is the same KP with the following message:

panic(cpu caller 0x2a86f7): "Version mis-match between kernel and CPU PM"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1486.2.11/osfmk/i386/pmCPU.c:681
Debugger called: panic.

I am trying again, but something's still wrong. Another thought at this would be much appreciated.

Firstly I'd just like to point out I'm very new (yesterday was my first attempt) to this method of installing OS:X on my Advent 4211. Previously I'd installed 10.5.3 via the Kalyway method, but frankly it's a pain in the arse getting it to work with Snow Leopard (atleast for me anyway!).

This is what I've done so far:

  • Install Vanilla Snow Leopard via USB as decribed
  • Install EFI Finisher.pkg (boots perfectly and graphics now at 1024 x 600)
  • Install WiFi Card Drivers for the stock RTL8187SE WiFi Card (WiFi works via the Realtek WLAN Client Utility)

This is what I plan on doing next:

That's as far as I've got... do I need to install anything else that I'm missing? Will all the features work, for example the sleep on lid and headphone jacks didn't work at first under the Kalway method. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Intel iMac 24", 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
Advent 4211C, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, Stock RTL8187SE WiFi Card, Snow Leopard 10.6.0 (Vanilla).
1TB Time Capsule.
iPhone 3G 16GB.

Read the post. You can update to 10.6.2 perfectly fine with Software Update, and you dont need to use the thing from the other post.

I do everything according to the guide. Everything. And I still get the kernel panic with the above-mentioned message.
Could it be an incompatibility issue? U100 with 2GB RAM and a Dell 1490 wifi card should play nice, to my understanding.

I am out of ideas, to be honest :). Do I really have to stick to 10.6.1?

Thanks, my best regards,
Akagi

Aye, I do everything according to the tutorial, to the letter. No deal this end.
Stuck with 10.6.1.

Watching this space for anything new anyway.

Best,

Ok, I have some good developments to report finally!
Turns out, I was not doing everything as instructed, for my 16GB Kingston stick was GUID partitioned and not MBR. Zeroed data out, repartitioned... etc.

Status: 10.6.2. up and running (finding it funny I managed that exactly for the arrival of 10.6.3 :D).
Speedstep, as reported my CPU-X, is working. Sound and everything else essential to me, is working.

2 problems still:
- the cooling fan spins fast all the time, and most importantly
- NO sleep on lid close.

I am using the latest speedstep.kext and fakesmc.kext and disabler.kext as downloaded from the first page's links.

There's so much confusion (in my beginner head only, of course) about all the different kexts. I am listing my kexts below, with their specific comments. Please, should anyone have an idea what my next steps should be, without DSDT patching, if possible, let me have it.
Oh, and one more thing: I am using UpdateEFI --» Basic Changes to add and remove kexts. Is my understanding correct that any newly added kext is installed upon choosing OK on the Finish and UnMount Partition?

My kexts, no sleep on lid close, fan noisy:

27aeAppleIntelGMA950.kext
27aeAppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext
AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext
AppleACPIEC.kext
CPUInjector.kext
Disabler.kext --» Downloaded from Dalton's links, original posting
fakesmc.kext --» Downloaded from Dalton's links, original posting
RealtekR1000.kext
SleepEnabler.kext --» Downloaded from Meklort's place
UUID.kext
VoodooHDA.kext
VoodooPower.kext
VoodooPS2Controller.kext --» Downloaded from Dalton's links, original posting, because of special keyboard (Hungarian)
VoodooPS2Trackpad.kext --» Downloaded from Dalton's links, original posting

Your thoughts are most welcome and the great work much appreciated!

Best,
Akagi
