Apologies if this has been asked before, but is it possible to do the Vanilla install using the Snow Leopard Update disc instead of the Retail disc?

Thanks

You need the retail disk

EDIT: The disk you cannot use is the disk that comes with a Mac.

As I understand the Retail and Update are full working copies. I used the so called update disk for my Vanilla install.

It wasn't two different replies, as the Retail and Update are the same and the one that comes with a Mac is different as it is Machine dependent.

Sorry I meant your reply and Dalton's reply :-)

Edit: Just read Dalton's edit. I got the discounted SL upgrade disc i.e. not the disc that came with my MBP (since I bought the MBP after June 9 or whenever they annouced it)

I paid $29.00 from Apple and I received it from them the day of release, and it worked for my install. I had a problem at first with can't find mach_kernel, but I edited the file and it worked. But I don't think that affected everyone, but me.

Correction, all is possible. Update is same as retail and oem is np as well. However, I am not going to tell you cheap, lazy bastards out there how to do it. 30usd, cmon they earned that. I use the trick for iLife but I also own a sh!ton of apple hardware, applied my brain and figured it out, therefore neither cheap nor lazy.

Yep! I bought two copies one for my iMac and one for this. But I was stupid I forgot about the family pack so I paid more. Oh well I am not going to cry over spilled milk.

Worked using the Update disc and the very clear and easy to use instructions :-)
Also used the Easy Update EFI tool to get to 10.6.1...will wait a while before taking the plunge to 10.6.2 lol

Thanks again!

I dont know about stabler...But definitely better. Just think after you install with this, you could put the hard drive in any Mac and boot right into it...And you have alot of mac's.

BTW Welcome to the purer side of hackintosh

Hehehhhehehe.
TBH I don't have any working Intel Macintoshes. And I have only one working SATA Mac, which is my iMac G5 which is not gonna do much for me because of the GUID/APM problem. I am really jittery right now about this. Someone care to donate a working intel Mac?
My broken Intel macs are:
MacBook Core Duo 2GHZ, Coffee spill, washed the board nothing. Got an 80GB Drive, SuperDrive (for iMac G5), and 1GB RAM out of it, Nice Display/ Assembly, Wi-Fi G card for backup of my current one.
MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHZ, Dog peed on it, just tested washed board and it will make the screen go black with no back light, just stopped. Got out of it: 1GB Ram, Better SuperDrive (Staying in there for now) , Decent display, fair display assembly, Wi-Fi N card full height I need to remove the standoff to fit this on my Wind, Standoff won't come off :).

HAHA! I AM VANILLA! IT worked! Except for Wi-Fi which is my fault for not seating the card correctly! How do I update, to 10.6.1 or 10.6.2? Seems to have loaded much faster!
You rock!

Just to make things simple Im about to put together 2 packages. One for EFI, and one for SnowyWindOSX.

One stop shop for 10.6.2 update. No more troubles...LOL
