Problem:
You are using GUID, SnowyWindOSX is for MBR.

Step 4 says GUID or MBR?

Your "X" value would be the disk identifier for your HDD as a whole so based on your diskutil list, your X would be "0" (number zero).

As for your "Y" value, it would be the partition where you installed your SnowyAlpha. That means it would be "2"

so your command, for example, in dd= would read as:

dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdisk0s2

It can be installed on both, Mars.

@zirkwander

I tried X=0, Y=2 and f 2 didn't work for me. This time I used X=0, Y=2 and f 1, this worked for me and now I'm good to go :)

This forum has the fastest replies on any forums I've been on. Thanks guys

It is located on the DVD which you burned the SnowyWindOSX ISO file to. I would suggest copying that whole folder to your Hard Drive just incase you need it.

Ha i had the same problem thry 0s2 :) For me it was 0s1 and it worked! I just tried every possible

But does anybody know a good tut for patching this snowy version to 10.6.2? I already tried Dalted method, using apple update, then run update handler and then his package. Finally you make the reboot wished by the apple update but my system was stucked at "You have to reboot your system, press the power button..."

Any help is appreciated :)

Hi Everybody,

i'am hang on step 9. I typed in:
dd if=boot1h of /dev/rdisk0s3 (my old 10.5 istall is on part3)

I get the message:
dd: boot1h: Device is not configured
0+0 records in
0+0 records out
0 bytes transferred in blabla......

For that next command fdisk -e /dev/disk0
will failed also with:
fdisk could not open MBR file /usr/standalone/i386/boot0: Device not configured

Is this normal?

For that, I typed all next commands and reboot. It's reeboot in a loop.

Which further information do you need from me to help me?

If 10.5 is installed on part 3, wouldn't it be rdisk0s2 or whatever partition you installed 10.6 on?

Try booting back into your SnowyWindOSX disk and try those commands again.

I'm not positive if you can have two installations of OS X on a single HD at the moment. You may need to erase all partions and start from scratch.

The terminal command should be:
Code: Select all
dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsY
You forgot the = sign after of

Oops, the guide is not right, need to fix that. I just copied and pasted this guide from the Readme. Not sure why it is wrong...
EDIT- the guide should now be correct

So, Murat_77, just boot into the disk again, re-run the commands, reboot, and you should be able to boot into 10.6 :)

Yeah! I'm in. OSX 10.6.1 boots successfuly. Now I try to install the device specific files out of the "Optional Installs" Folder discribed in the readme.txt.

In teminal the command sudo -s would have a password.

1st: I never had set a password during the installation anywhere. It is for testing and I know the security flaw of no password.
Is there a way to remove a "non set password"?

2nd. the therminal does not let me enter input strokes for the password. Only Enter-Key and Ctrl-C works. So, I would not be able t enter a password.

I'am wondering about ths behavior.

Thanks in advance

Can you get into "System Preferences"? If yes go to to accounts and set your password. It should allow you to do that.

Thank you very much joelw135.
Now I have given a password to my account. But the 2nd thing remains. sudo -s will have a password and don' let me type it in.

You don't see the password strokes in terminal. Just after you see where it wants the password type it (it won't show) then hit enter.

Oh man, I'm so inexperienced. Thank You. You are the Crack.
So, now I have to setup my little SnowLeo to run smoothly with all Hardware.
Till the next stumbling block for a noob like me.

Some things worked not perfectly. The resolution of 1024x600 is not present in System Prefernces. I have alredy replaced the DisplayProductID-717 file into /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-756e6b6e.
What did I wrong?

During the installation I had set the language to german and in System Prefernces also. But the Interface is english at all. Is ths english vesion not multi language?
