This great guide was created by Dalton63841 and was originally posted on his blog- http://dalton63841.webs.com/apps/forums ... ?page=last
What you need:
- MSI Wind
- SnowyWindOSX.iso (can be downloaded here- (EDIT- search for Snowywindosxalpha on Google and you should find what you are looking for :) )
- Single-layer or dual-layer DVD
- External DVD drive

Instructions:

1. First of course you need to burn the iso. It will fit on a single layer dvd.

2. Put in the disk and power on, then tap F11 to get to the boot menu. Choose the SnowyWindoSX Alpha.iso. It does take about 4-5 minutes to boot the disk, don't worry, that is not the case with the final install.

3. Once booted up, choose the language, click continue, and agree on the licence.

4. Click on Utilities on the menubar, and click Disk Utility. Create and/or format your partition as Mac OS Journaled. It can be MBR OR GUID.

5. Close Disk Utility and choose your partition.

6. Click Continue. Do NOT click customize. It is pointless. There is nothing on the list to customize.

7. When you get to the Install button it will check the disk, you can skip it or not.

8. After it is finished, Reboot back into the disk, choose your language, and then click Utilities on the menubar and click Terminal.

9. In terminal, type:

cd /Volumes/MacOSXInstall/fix
diskutil list (This will give you the disk and partition number for your Mac install)
fdisk -f boot0 -u -y /dev/rdiskX
dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsY
fdisk -e /dev/diskX
p
f Y
w
y
q

(X=disk number from diskutil list)
(Y= partition number from diskutil list)

10. Now reboot and boot into your newly installed Mac. Note that sound and graphics won't be working at this point.

11. Once booted into your fresh install, mount SnowyWindOSX Alpha on your desktop. Look in the Optional Installs folder for the 10.6.1 update. Install it, but DO NOT REBOOT.

12. In the Optional Installs folder there is a package called Update Handler. Install that package. Then stored that package on your hard drive. It will handle future updates in this same manner.

13. Now you can reboot into your perfect system.

14. If at this point you do not have full graphics, look in the Optional Installs folder. Read the Read Me file. It will explain the use of EVERYTHING in the folder.

I guess I can be the first one to gripe lol.

So I've got it installed and I'm at the terminal part of the instructions. When I get to "dd if=boot1h of /dev/rdiskXsY", it tells me "invalid operand". I thought I was putting a space in the wrong place but I've tried about every possible combination. I'm still getting the "boot0" error and constant reboot. HELP!!!

One other thing. I've had Windows 7 installed on my netbook already but now obviously I can't even get to it or SL. Is there a way to not only get into SL at all, but to also maintain my dual boot?

Hello,

When i tried to burn the ISO using Infra-recorder, I'm getting stuck at the grey apple screen. Is there something i'm doing wrong because it won't load?? I booted into my WinXP and tried to read the cd and it reads MacOSXInstall, so i assume it was burnt correctly. I've tried burning the ISO 3 times and same thing happened to all 3 cd's. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong??

Thanks

Sidenote: Does anyone think the white background is a little TOO white? The brightness hurts my eyes after reading a while.

That was what I needed to complete my installation! Thanks ermood!

Now to just work out the other kinks and I'll be good to go.

This was already corrected by Dalton on his page and on the insanelymac thread since a day after the release.

i have followed your guide, and installed a copy of snow leopard, but every time i've installed it (3 times now) once i have installed 10.6.1, and the updatehandler patch, when it reboots it reboots to a gray screen, but i can change the sound using the msi keyboard and can hear it changing, how do i solve this problem?

Thanks

Dan

I have a u100 triple booting osx ubuntu and xp in that order and when I hit f11 it show my external drive but just says dvd drive not osxwindinstall. If I click on the dvd drive from the boot menu it just boots like it normally would into the bootloader then to osx. What am I missing here?

:^) Don't even ask me if the disk is in the drive

Ok...this may be obvious to most of you here, but I have not been able to figure this out. I have burned the ISO to dvd and I am trying to install SnowyWindOSXAlpha to my MSI Wind. I never get past the initial grey screen Apple logo and the dvd player seems to stop.. What am I doing wrong or what step am I missing to get this installation to move forward? I would appreciate any help!

@Dalton, would you please be so kind as to update your Update Helper to include the Video driver that Mars posted. That driver seems a better match for Snow than the original. Thanks.

The one listed on Google at the website "Btmon" appears to work. Warning- that site contains ads you might not want to see... just go there if you are desperate for a download link.

Since there aren't any POSITIVE remarks on this thread, I thought I'd share this... I installed SnowyWindOSX on my Wind tonight using a DVD, and ran into NO problems at all! Everything seems to be working perfectly, other than the Ralink wireless... it IS working, but the Ralink utility is a futile attempt at software. I think I'll be installing a Dell wireless card so I can use the Apple Airport settings.

Hope everyone else is experiencing success, and they're just too busy playing with their Hackintosh to post about it!
